I wrote a post recently called “Do Worship Leaders Need to Go to Seminary?,” and I kinda answered the question by saying Yes & No. However, if seminary isn’t for you, then what other options are there?
I wanted to take a quick moment today to share with you 3 of my favorite alternatives to seminary, that I probably would have used myself if I didn’t choose to go to seminary and work full-time. PLEASE NOTE: these are not the only 3 alternatives or even the 3 BEST alternatives for you! I simply want to open your mind to some ideas and to get the wheels turning in your head about what is best for YOU!
With that in mind, here’s my brief thoughts on 3 great alternatives to seminary for Worship Leaders:
We talk here a lot about things we can do as Worship Leaders to grow in our knowledge, craft, and leadership. However, there may be a cap on how much self improvement and development we can do on our own. There is a lot to be said for a great mentor or even online courses, but what about the traditional option: Seminary.
I personally decided to go to seminary, but we’ll get to my story in a bit. It feels like I talk to Worship Leaders almost weekly about whether seminary is the right option for them or not. Especially heading into a new year, this has been a hot topic of conversation recently.
Since this has been on my radar, I wanted to take some time to speak directly to Worship Leaders about whether seminary is the right option for them and maybe what might be the right next step for you!
Earlier this week, I was doing my semi-annual culling of all the apps on my iPhone. I don’t know if you do this, but I have to or I’d have too much crap to sift through just to get to the stuff that I really want to use.
Anyways, I got to thinking about some apps that have been helpful to me as a Worship Leader and I thought I’d share 3 that are really killing it for me right now.
Lets start by getting a few of the mainstays that everyone knows about out of the way, even though they deserve a mention anyways:
No NEW Posts Week of Nov 9
Just wanted to give you a heads up that we won’t have any new posts this week. We’ve got our staff retreat this week and we’ve also got a MILLION other things going on, so I don’t want to short change the content here because of my crazy life.
We’ll kick things off again the following Tuesday, Nov 17 with some great new content! Hope you guys are enjoying everything, be on the lookout some helpful stuff for Worship Leaders and team members.
Hope you guys are great, and feel free to check out some of these recent posts:
I think that worship leaders get a pretty nasty rap when it comes to being organized or even moderately responsible.
Some of that is hard earned from the natural scatter-brained-ness of the artist, but I think it’s time that worship leaders shed the reputation of being unorganized and unable to keep track of anything.
Unfortunately, there is not a light switch solution where we can flip it on and become the hardcore type-A freaks some of our leaders are know to be. With that said, I think that we can take steps and leverage technology to fill in some of our natural deficiencies.
Happy Friday Everyone!
After a long (yea, I know, REALLY long) Summer break, we’re getting back in the swing of things. I don’t know about you, but life has definitely been crazy busy and crazy awesome.
My daughter is not almost 6 months old (6 MONTHS OLD!) and we’re sprinting headfirst into the end of 2015. This year has gone by so fast, but has easily been one of my favorites yet!
Anyways, I’ve got some awesome stuff coming doing the line for you guys, starting THIS MONDAY. We’ve got some posts like:
• The Difference Between Practice & Rehearsal
• The Worship Leader’s Guide to Evernote
• Do I Need to Go to Seminary?
• How to Use Tracks with Your Band
We’ve also got some awesome 5 Questions coming up from great worship leaders like:
• Andi Rozier from Vertical Church Band
• Leslie Jordan from All Sons & Daughters
• Mat Crisp from Lifecentre Church
I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead and I hope that everything you find at cdenning.com is always helpful and encouraging!

One last thing. If there’s any topics or something you’d like to see on cdenning.com, let me know on Facebook or Twitter, or simply fill out the form below with your ideas. I love to hear from you guys!
If you haven’t noticed, we haven’t had any new posts on here in recent weeks. I could give you a bunch of excuses or tell you how crazy life has been (which it has been), and tell you about some crazy dental work I’m having done (which I’m probably under some AWESOME anesthetics) but, honestly, I’m not even sorry!
Sure, I love providing great content here for Worship Leaders and those who want to grow as leaders, but I love my family more. When it comes to deciding between new content and family, they always win.
Not only that, I feel like if I tried to cram writing into the small cracks in my life right now, the content wouldn’t be up to the quality I think you guys deserve. I want to continually produce awesome content that helps you grow as leaders, and I don’t want to put out sub-par content because I suck at managing my writing time right now.
So, for the next few weeks, there will not be new posts on cdenning.com. In this time, I’ll be working on some new content, new post series, and even some awesome 5 Questions posts we’ve got coming up, including leaders like Leslie Jordan from All Sons & Daughters, Andi Rozier from Vertical Church Band/Harvest Bible Chapel, and others.
In the meantime, why don’t you check out some of these popular posts:
I hope you’re enjoying your Summer, I know I’m going to enjoy mine over the next few weeks. I’m working on some awesome stuff for the end of Summer & Fall, so get ready for what’s next on cdenning.com!
