Things get crazy sometimes.
Because of this fact, I’ve fallen way behind on my reading list for this year. So, instead of playing catch-up for the rest of the year and feeling like a failure while doing it (you know what that’s like), I’ve decided to revamp and rework my reading list. Here it is:

  • Crazy Love – Chan
  • Humility – Mahaney
  • Desiring God – Piper
  • The Jesus I Never Knew – Yancey
  • Vintage Jesus – Driscoll
  • The Weight of Glory – Lewis
  • Developing the Leader Within You – Maxwell
  • The Knowledge of the Holy – Tozer
  • The Great Divorce – Lewis
  • Lit – Edwards
  • Prayer – Foster
  • Mere Christianity – Lewis

With all of this, I’m also reading through The Chronicles of Narnia collection for some lighter reading. I’m pretty happy with this list and I’m praying it helps to grow and mature as a believer. Right now I’m searching and being intentional about personally answering the question Jesus asks in Luke 9:20, “Who do you say I am?”. This, along with searching for my own identity, is the lens I’m looking through right now at all I’m reading and in the Scripture.

Outside of the Bible, What are you reading?

“Why do I write my blog?”
This one of many questions a blogger should ask themselves on occasion. If I’m going to invest my time and some creative energy & thought into something, I like to have a clear purpose and focus behind it. I decided to conduct something like a self-interview. So, I cooked up a few questions to guide my thoughts on the What/Who/Why of In.Motion. Here they are . . .

Q: What is this blog about?
A: I want to stay mostly within 5 main categories.
Worship: My thoughts on worship leading and worship music. My general musings on growing as a worship leader.

Faith: My thoughts and observations on how God is moving in my life. This is my attempt to be transparent and open, within reason, with the good and bad of my walk in an effort to spur others to authenticity in their own lives.

Life: My thoughts on what is happening to me, in general. This is more about the day-to-day or interesting things that are going on.

Bible: My thoughts on what I am reading and how it applies in my life. Hopefully, this will encourage others to see how the Bible applies to them as well.

Creativity: My thoughts on any cool things that I’d call creative. Taking time to notice out-of-the-box ideas can lead to creativity of your own.

Q: Who do I write my blog for?
A: I write for believers, worship leaders, and friends.

Q: Why do I write my blog?
A: I write my blog so that I can put my thoughts about worship, life, and my walk into words. Hopefully, what I write can be encouraging and helpful as well as a mean of accountability for myself. I’d like to show how God is moving in my life and how I am being shaped through my circumstances, whether good or bad.

Q: Why In.Motion?
A: In Motion is a way for me to express the fact that no matter our circumstances, no matter where we are in life, we are always in motion. More importantly, God is always moving in our lives. Let me rephrase that: No matter our circumstances, God is always in motion. This can be a source of hope for those who believe because the Bible says in Romans 8:28, “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him”. God moves in the good, God works through the bad, and, undoubtably, God always redeems. That is my hope.

I think that this is going to be a good, fresh restart. I’m hoping that In.Motion can be used to glorify God, to help me grow, and, hopefully, help others grow as well. Also, let me say this: I know I’m not perfect and this is not my attempt to come across as such. I’m going to say dumb things and I might even offend people (I am a sinner). Please know that I write this blog with the intent of building others up and with some degree of foresight. I only want to share how God is working in my life and what I’m learning along the way.

I’d like to invite you along for the ride.

Who doesn’t love summer?
I’m not just talking about the weather, cook-outs, or any single thing connotated with most people’s favorite season. I mean summer as a whole. Everything that comes with it. Time off from school, the beach, seeing old friends again. All the good stuff.

For me, especially in this season of my life, summer bring me a lot of free time. To bring you guys up to speed, I don’t have a whole lot going on. I’m not leading worship because I need some time away from it to work on myself. Also, I’m not working anywhere (yet, but If you can help with that, that’d be sweet).

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love having all of this free time. It is one of the spoils of summer. Along with the sun and pools, its one of the many benefits. However, too much of a good thing can totally spoil your summer. When I don’t have anything to really anchor my time (like something to do everyday or to base my schedule around) my internal clock gets real out of whack. I can sleep like a hibernating bear and can waste time better than a nerd hermetically sealed into his WOW lair (Sorry for any of you WOW users out there. Mad love to you).

I don’t think God makes mistakes, so I’m trying to be more aware of how He is moving and what He is doing in my life. I like I have to much time right now for two main reasons:

1. To grow in and add depth to my relationship with Christ.
2. To develop my self control/maturity.

I could waste this time right now and sleep my days away. I could fill my days with countless hours of Facebook stalking (its not as creepy as you think it is . . . I think). Either way, doing either or any of these things I’ve mentioned would be a complete waste of a very intentional time in my life. God has purposefully put me in this season of my life. I can either choose to let this time go to waste, or to be intentional. I can choose to be the same person I am in 3 months or use this as a proverbial greenhouse for my maturity.

I don’t want to get up at 9 or 10 in the morning just to read or to just be awake. I hate doing things without purpose. I’d call it a pet peeve. However, I think thats what part of moving into maturity is about. Doing things you don’t want to do in an effort to grow and better yourself. I’d like to look back in late August and know that I did not waste my summer.

So, what about you?
Are you being intentional about your growth or are you letting your days go by?
What can you do to intentionally grow this summer?

Don’t spoil your summer.
