In the past two weekends, I’ve been to two very atypical weddings. The first was for Laurie (who is pretty much my big sister) and Jeremy. The second was for Kelly and Fred (maybe it was JR??? more to come on that in a second)** [who are somehow friends with SB] in Va, in the middle of nowhere. Actually the place was called Bland. Seriously. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
So, Laurie and Jeremy’s wedding. It was by the lake, on one of the most beautiful days I’ve seen in a while. They were engaged for a month and got married. Thats what I’m talkin about. It was simple. The ceremony lasted maybe 5 minutes (are you kidding me?!?! Awesome!) and the reception was at the Gazebo deal right next to it and was a pot luck lunch. This was the wedding every guy would love to do (low maintenance, easy, enjoyable) but it takes the right kind of girl to do (aka Laurie). I really enjoyed myself and loved the time I got to spend with Tom, James, and Josh. Good stuff and good people.
Now for the second wedding. Maybe one of the more interesting wedding’s I’ve been to in a while. I’ll just give you some highlights . . .
- All of the groomsmen . . . 1. Dipped or were smoking. 2. Wore blood red button ups with black jeans and boots (belt buckles optional). 3. And had scraggly facial hair.
- The ceremony started with the Bride’s aunt singing a hymn a cappella, bless her heart (more on that in a second), and started out too high but finished the song. Bless her heart.
- One of the “Photographers”, which was not the official one, was in every single shot of the Bride and Groom during the ceremony.
- The pastor, bless his heart (I’m a Christian in the south, so we can say this to cover whatever harsh or ugly thing I say about him next), was booked on Wednesday. This was his first go so it was a little rough for him. He kept calling the Groom “JR” instead of Fred (which I think “JR” turned out to be a family thing).
- The reception was held in the same place as the ceremony but a curtain was pulled back to reveal an awesome band. I mean some pickers and grinners. That was awkward just by itself.
- My favorite part was when everyone left the ceremony, we just went outside where all the groomsmen, as if they were in sync or something, unbuttoned their shirts (with no undershirts mind you) to around the navel and enjoyed a good smoke, with their girlfriends.
I could keep going, but I think it had a lot to do with just being there. It was an experience to say the least.
What are some of your favorite wedding memories?
