This is a short piece of genius that a friend of mine wrote a while ago. I dug it up again and it does it to me every time. Enjoy.

With all the attention the Mexicans have been getting lately, I wanted to bring up an issue that seems to be getting over looked. Most of the press that I’ve heard has been pretty negative on this immigration issue, but I need to bring a little balance to the argument. I don’t care how they get here, or how illegal they are- one thing is for certain: if none of us legals are willing to rock the Rat Tail, or sport the Mustache any more, than somebody has to pick up our slack.
At first glance, these two hair styles may just seem like a simple, somewhat out-of-date way of saying “Check me out, this is how I roll”, But I think that it goes much deeper than that. At the end of the day, it’s really about respect, and nothing says respect like a thick Mustache and a strangley Rat-Tail. And when these two things are combined it’s almost frightening (in a good way). Think about it, back in the 70′s and 80′s nobody messed with the U.S. of A. We were on our game.. people wore these statements proudly, winked as they looked in the mirror, and did whatever they wanted, all day long. The times were great. We even sang rock ballads in stadiums about being born here. But now, forget about it. We’ve gotten soft, and we’re paying for it. I’m not sure when it specifically happened, but at some point in the early 90′s, we let up and the world took notice. I believe it was somewhere between the first season of Sienfeld and the failed bombings of the World Trade Centers, that can be historically marked as the official turning point. When we switched channels from classics like ‘Magnum P.I.’ and ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’, to watch Ross and Rachel whine it out for a full half hour. Think about it, before the 90′s there weren’t even any such things as terrorists. Why? Because nobody’s going to mess with a country full of Mustaches and Rat Tails. Now we have to do everything we can to keep from getting bullied around again.
For me, it’s simple. Our Mexican nieghbors, I believe, are seeing a need here, and filling a grave gap between the America we once knew, and the one we have become. Why would they do this for us, at our darkest hour? Integrity? Intuitive forsight? Or just personal philantropy? Personally, I don’t care. I’m just honored that they are willing to do what they do on a daily basis. So friends, amigos, I urge you now; stay the course! Stand your ground! And I, for one will extend a hand of gratitude when this is all figured out.
